A clear path from seeing to doing.

  1. Have the Topic 27 worksheet and a pencil ready. Its front shows completed examples. Its back is for your own work.
  2. Follow the six sections. Read “Your next action.” Use the green button to reveal one step at a time. Nothing advances on a timer.
  3. Try the point controls. Drag the point, tap the graph, or use the coordinate sliders. Watch the same pair enter both equations.
  4. Write before checking. Complete all three back problems, then open one check at a time. Correct your paper before moving to ALEKS.
For parents and learning partners

You do not need a different method. Follow the completed examples with the student. Ask: “Where do you see that on the graph?” and “Does the same point make both equations true?”

Let the student explain and write before revealing the check. If they are stuck, revisit the matching front example, then return to their paper. One equation being true is not enough. Infinitely many solutions means points on the shared line.

Words used in this lesson
System
Two or more equations considered together. This lesson uses two linear equations.
Ordered pair (x, y)
A point’s coordinates: horizontal position first, vertical position second.
Solution of the system
A point that makes both equations true.
Parallel
Different lines that never meet, even when extended.
Coincident
Two equations whose graphs are the same line.
Controls and accessibility

Paper pause covers the lesson and keeps your place. Back revisits a step. Start over resets the lesson and hides the checks.

No animation keeps all content immediately available. The Studio also respects your device’s reduced-motion setting. Full screen depends on browser support; the ordinary view has the same content.

Use Tab to move between controls, Enter or Space to activate a button, and arrow keys on a slider. Escape closes a dialog. Line 1 is solid; Line 2 is dashed. Truth is written as TRUE or FALSE as well as colored.

There is no timer, score, account, or student-data collection. The Studio itself works offline. ALEKS is a separate service.
